Vintage 1920's George B. Stone & Son Master Model 5" x 14" Maple Snare Drum in Black De Luxe

Believed to be from the mid 1920's, this drum was handmade in the Stone & Son workshop in Boston. The shell is comprised of staggered 3 ply all Maple shells with all Maple hoops.

We intentionally left the hardware as we found it: worn and patinaed like a 100 year old drum should be. The shell is in good shape for it's age with plenty of spots of wear, most notably behind the tension nuts. Bearing edges are both very nice. and round enough to take a standard modern Remo head without issue (the bottom head it came with was torn). All parts seem to be original (save for the modern head).  If the wires aren't original, they are at least very old.

Snare strainer is complete and works well with a very smooth action. The butt is a really cool and very precisely installed 3-piece design. Snare wires are stretched and warped and should probably be replaced.

We did spot one small area of ply separation on the resonate side of the drum (see pictures) but it seems relatively minor and would be an easy fix, if desired. 

The hoops are indented as you would expect. Both sides of the bottom hoop have breaks in the thin wood near the snare wire openings. One of them is cracked all the way through, check pictures for more details.

This drum has the potential to shine up pretty nicely, but we opted to keep it a little worn looking for any customer who would want it to look closer to its actual age.
